These shoes have rested, unstrung, unused, and dusty under my bed-side table.  They were a daily staple last year and fell out of rotation when I got suede desert boots.  But, today, I pulled them back out, washed them with saddle soap, coated them with a deep brown wax, and restrung them (with those desert boot strings).  Not only do they look amazing, I forgot how the Zen value of polishing shoes.
Granted, my generation aligns with “wax on, wax off,” but there’s something to it.  I got lost for 30 minutes and, when I came to, I had a brilliant (and worn-in) pair of boots.  The entire exercise might have cost $5 but the value was far greater.
Tonight, I reunite these boots with my feet.  To many, that would be a terrible thing.  To my boots (and my feet) this will be quite a treat.
